Why do men pay a lot less for their hair than women?

November 29, 2018

Look at it like this. You get handed a flyer in the street from someone offering massage therapy services, the flyer says £50 full body massage for ladies and £15 full body massages for men. You would definitely question why men get the service so much cheaper, right? Surely it's the same service?

Traditionally hairdressing is associated with being a femine service, with barbering being associated with men. The reality is that these are just skillsets that should be applied to everyone, male or female. A lot of Barbers won't even accept women, even in 2018!

A woman should be able to go to a barber and have a barbered cut, and vice versa with men and hairdressing. Who's to decide what service and treatment you want?

I price my services based on my hairdressing skills, which I apply to people. Male, female, and everything inbetween. Society has conditioned us to think otherwise. I feel I'm swimming upstream with this new pricing structure but I truly feel its fair. This isn't just a trend, offering services that aren't defined by gender is going to encourage equality for the long haul.

Here are two of my lovely clients, Andy and Jemima. Both have short hair, both have a mixture of hairdressing and barbering techniques, and technical bleach and tone colours.

They paid the same.

Short haircut £36

Bleach & Tone 75 Minute Colour £62
